Just when we thought Miley Cyrus couldn't get any weirder, her newest music video goes and proves that the erstwhile "Hannah Montana" star is just getting warmed up. After Cyrus's somewhat scandalous performance at the 2013 MTV Video Awards, during which she strutted around in an unflattering flesh-colored plastic bra and panty set, twerked with a very-married Robin Thicke, and molested backup dancers who were inexplicably dressed as giant teddy bears, we didn't think she could do anything that we hadn't already seen. Yet, with her video for "Wrecking Ball," Cyrus once again caused the internet to clutch its collective pearls in surprise. Who knew the internet was such a prude?
With the "Wrecking Ball" video breaking Vevo records 19.3 million views in just twenty-four hours, naturally, it was just a matter of time before the parodies started rolling in. Below are five of the funniest "Wrecking Ball" spoofs so far, and you can check out the original video here.
It's a long-running joke that actor Nicolas Cage seems to be in everything, so it makes sense that he would soon be inserted into the hottest video sensation online. YouTube user sukmywangBryanStars uploaded this brief (only eight seconds) clip to YouTube on September 12, 2013, and just a few days later it had already been viewed a staggering three million times.
If you are familiar with Vine videos, you know that they are six second long "mini movies," and some of them are downright hilarious. This one was made by Vine user Frank McDonald, who decided to copy Miley's naked wrecking ball ride himself, using nothing but his Birthday Suit and a tire swing. Nailed it!
In true "Mystery Science Theater style, listen as two funny Irish guys chatter throughout the video. They seem genuinely concerned about Miley's safety, which is kind of sweet, even if it is all in jest. This video has a NSFW warning, but only because these guys drop one or two F-bombs. It's otherwise clean.
This clip made me immediately start searching for more from these guys. Funny stuff!
In the most meticulously accurate and well-produced parody to date, watch as twenty-seven year-old BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James takes on Miley's role in this scene-by-scene remake. James even strips down to nothing for the naked "riding the wrecking ball" scene, though the info on the YouTube clip does admit that he donned a sock, for modesty's sake. James's version of the video is dead-on, right down to the lipstick and mascara he wears. You've also got to hand it to him; tighty-whities and a wife-beater is a tough look to master, but he pulls it off. Bravo!
