Meet Maxine:

"Maxine, that crabby character from Hallmark, came to life in 1986 when she appeared on several Shoebox cards the year the alternative card line was launched," reveals the greetings and gifts company."John Wagner, Hallmark artist since 1970, says Maxine was inspired by his mother, his maiden aunts and his grandmother, the woman who bought him art lessons ... 'If Maxine can get a laugh out of someone who feels lonely or someone who is getting older and hates the thought of another birthday, or if she can make someone chuckle about stressful interpersonal relationships, then I'm happy. Putting a smile on someone's face is what it's all about.'"

Maxine at Hallmark:

The cranky lady offers wit and snarkiness with free greeting cards to be sent via email for numerous occasions. Gift items with Maxine's presence are available, too.

And don't miss Maxine's daily Crabby Road comic strip on view at Hallmark's Maxine.com. Today's tongue lashing and past swift boots to the pants are sitting quietly in the corner of a generous Crabby Road cartoon archive.
