Phat Girlz:
- Starring the hilarious Mo'Nique as Jasmin Biltmore, a smart-mouthed aspiring fashion designer, Phat Girlz is an edgy comedy about two frustrated plus-sized women obsessed with their weight while struggling to find love and acceptance in a world full of "hot bodied" babes. The Phat Girlz are thrown a major curve ball when they meet the men of their dreams who come from a culture where big is better.
That's Fox Searchlight Pictures' take on what appears to be a predictable, by-the-numbers comedy, about as "edgy" as prunes. One joke in the Phat Girlz movie trailer, seen at the official site, made me laugh, so I was encouraged.
Fluke. Along came a painful, poorly executed "Yo Mama" gag (didn't those go out with yo grandmama?) and a tepid, obvious, desperate penis reference (didn't those go out with talent?) made me shake my head in bewilderment, now forever elsewhere. Less'Nique.
