1. Mashable's Watercooler

You might be surprised to find Mashable on this list, since Mashable is a site that focuses mainly on technology, social media, and general internet news. However, their Watercooler section is consistently funny, trendy, and yes, happy. Each day they serve up internet trends, videos, memes, and other viral content in quick, easy to read posts. Their name is accurate, since this is the type of content that people tend to talk about, online or off.

Most importantly, for the purposes of this list, they leave the bad news for another section of the website, focusing only on the feel-good stuff that makes people laugh.

2. Huffpost Comedy

Most people know The Huffington Post as a news site that mixes sensational tabloid news with real issues, but on the Comedy area of the site, it's all about the funny stuff. On HuffPost Comedy you'll find all the web news of the day, including videos, webcomics, and blog posts by famous comedians and humorists. It's a nice break from the bad news of the world, but the "real" news is just a click away.

3. Funny Or Die

Don't let the title fool you, this site has nothing to do with death. Founded in 2007 by actor Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company, Gary Sanchez Productions, the site features a daily mix of original and user-generated content. If you're looking for parodies about recent news events, this is a good place to check first. It's not that they don't cover world events in their own way, they just make fun of them with spoof videos, images, and more.

FoD has a wide array of humor videos, many of which feature famous actors like Ben Stiller, Jerry Seinfeld, Ryan Gosling, Patrick Stewart, Daniel Radcliffe, and others. This is a one-stop shop for feel-good humor that doesn't strive for seriousness in any way.

4. Smosh

When we say that Smosh contains nothing but mindless internet comedy, we actually mean it as a compliment. The site was created by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox in 2002, and today it features a steady stream of silly, funny, and sometimes raunchy posts. They cover most web trends and memes, create funny lists of things like "Weirdest Tumblr Blogs" and 'Things You Probably Hate But Will Love When You're An Adult," and they generally keep things light and goofy.

5. College Humor

College Humor is not just for kids and young adults, I promise. This site features daily original comedy videos and articles, all of which are created by their in-house writing and production team, and their web users. The videos, pictures, articles, and links center on fun, light-hearted topics like sports, video games, college life and dating. They feature bizarre and unusual photographs, quirky articles, and other fun stuff that does not require a lot of mental heavy-lifting. In today's world, that is a very good thing.
