MySpace Comedy

Online Community for Comedians and Fans

by Mike Durrett
for About.com

MySpace, the popular teen and 20-something Web hangout, has expanded with a special area devoted to contemporary clowns. "The online social networking giant said more than 7,500 comedians already use MySpace, which it said make it the largest online community for comics and comedy fans," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

That also goes to prove the old adage, everybody is a comedian. How many of those 7,500 are of professional calibre remains to be seen, but through a partnership with the Improv comedy club circuit, numerous up-and-coming and well-known stand-up comics will be hosted with their own profile pages, including performance video clips, sound files, tour dates, and fan interaction. Other styles of comedians and humorous writers are welcome. Fluffing the package, viral videos and joke swaps from around MySpace at large.

If you're new to the MySpace environment, think of the comedy offerings as a large flea market. There are treasures to be uncovered, but you'll probably have to rummage around to find something to fulfill your clean and/or racy fancies. Be adventurous, explore unknown jokers and enjoy their riffs, as I did today with new-to-me Bruce Bruce and Eddie Ifft.
