On April 3, 1953, Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows presented a send-up of Ralph Edwards' cheesy and maudlin celebrity-stalking reality series, This Is Your Life. In the sketch, This Is Your Story, Caesar is the honoree who wants no part of the festivities, until he's reunited with his long lost Uncle Goopy, played with hysterical emotional fervor by series' regular Howard Morris. Review:
This amazing piece of live television is the funniest TV sketch I've ever witnessed. Its success is more a testament to the fine improvisational performers than the cleverness of the writers (Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, et al.)
