"Frazz" by Jef Mallett
"Bryson Elementary's janitor is the most respected educator in the school," explains publishing syndicate United Media about this superlative new comic strip. "Every kid's pal and peer, Frazz exudes a love of learning that's contagious. The principal wants to be just like him. The other teachers want to learn from him. The students can't get enough of him. A Renaissance man, friend, role model ... Frazz makes learning fun for everyone."

An established editorial cartoonist, Mallett brings fetching visual skills and smart writing to these episodes, suggesting firm influences from Bill Watterson and Charles Schulz. His color Sunday output is especially eye-tickling with gems reminiscent of Calvin and Hobbes' weekend adventures.

Mixing cultural ingredients as it finds wit across the age spectrum, "Frazz" looks to appeal to all demographics. Here's a strip to savor, doubly immersed in squeaky cleanliness and a knowing grasp of second graders' cool universe.

Today's print presentation is available at Comics.com, with a full month of previous selections nearby.
