1939: Cole Porter's "DuBarry Was a Lady" opened on Broadway.

Born 1953: Wil Shriner, comedian ("TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes"), actor ("Peggy Sue Got Married"), TV director ("Frasier," "Becker," "The Norm Show"). Twin brother of Kin Shriner, son of humorist Herb Shriner.

Born 1955: Steven Wright, stand-up comedian, actor ("Desperately Seeking Susan," "Mad About You," "The Muse"), Academy Award-winning filmmaker ("The Appointments of Dennis Jennings").

Born 1962: Janine Turner, actress, "Steel Magnolia," "Maggie on "Northern Exposure," June Cleaver in "Leave It to Beaver" (1997).
