Born 1884: Damon Runyon, humorous author. His stories were turned into many popular films, including "Lady for a Day," "Guys and Dolls," "Money From Home," "The Lemon Drop Kid," and "Little Miss Marker." Died 1946.

Born 1895: Buster Keaton, comedian, actor, film director and screenwriter. Simply put, Buster Keaton was the greatest comedy figure of the silent era -- and that includes his fellow masters, Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. Unfortunately, he lost contractual control of his productions to MGM during the early sound era, ruining his career. Among Keaton's amazing pictures: "Cops," "Our Hospitality," "Seven Chances," "Sherlock, Jr.," "The Navigator," "The General," "Steamboat Bill, Jr.," "The Cameraman," and "Spite Marriage." His other credits include numerous shorts with top star Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, "The Buster Keaton Show," "Limelight," "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini," "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Born 1946: Susan Sarandon, actress, "The Front Page" (1974), "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "The Buddy System," "Compromising Positions," "The Witches of Eastwick," "Bull Durham," "Thelma and Louise," "Bob Roberts," "Cats and Dogs" (voice), "Igby Goes Down," "The Banger Sisters."

1957: "Leave It to Beaver" premiered, Wally.

Born 1976: Alicia Silverstone, actress, "Clueless," "Blast From the Past," "Love's Labour Lost," "Miss Match."
