Born 1910: Kenny Delmar, comedian, actor, Sen. Claghorn on radio's "The Fred Allen Show," "It's a Joke, Son." He also performed the voice of Commander McBragg in three cartoon series, " "Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales," "Hoppity Hooper," and "Underdog." Died 1984.

Born 1929: Bob Newhart, stand-up comedian, actor, "Hot Millions," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," "Catch-22," "Cold Turkey," "The Bob Newhart Show," voice of Bernard in "The Rescuers," "Little Miss Marker" (1980), "First Family," "Newhart," "Bob," "In & Out," "George & Leo," "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde." "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" (1960), a comedy album of live performances, zoomed past Broadway's "The Sound of Music" and Elvis to the very top of record charts, making the unknown comedian a household name.

Born 1951: Michael Keaton, stand-up comedian, actor, "Night Shift," "Beetlejuice," "Mr. Mom," "The Dream Team," "Much Ado About Nothing" (1993), "Multiplicity."

1950: Mort Walker's "Beetle Bailey" comic strip debuted in newspapers.
