Born 1909: Ruby Keeler, dancer, actress, "42nd Street," "Dames," "Ready, Willing and Able." After a 30 year retirement, she returned in Broadway's 1971 production of "No No Nanette." Died 1993.

Born 1913: Walt Kelly, cartoonist, "Pogo." Died 1973.

Born 1931: Regis Philbin, late-night sidekick ("The Joey Bishop Show"), superstar TV host.

Born 1941: Marshall Brickman, screenwriter (sometimes with Woody Allen), film director, "Sleeper," "Annie Hall," "Manhattan," "Simon," "Lovesick," "For the Boys" (1991), "Manhattan Murder Mystery."

Born 1947: Anne Archer, actress, "Cancel My Reservation," TV's "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," "Hero at Large."

1949: Family sitcom "Father Knows Best" debuted on NBC radio. The program, starring Robert Young and Jane Wyatt, moved to television in 1954.
