Born 1897: Moe Howard, comedian, film actor, bully Moe of The Three Stooges. Died 1975. Real-life brother of Shemp and Curly.

Born 1917: Pat Buttram, comedian, writer, actor. In many films, he was Gene Autry's sidekick. On TV, he was country con con man Mr. Haney on "Green Acres." Died 1994.

1923: The "Moons Mullins" comic strip premiered.

Born 1928: Barry Took, UK stand-up comedian, writer, producer of "Monty Python's Flying Circus." Died 2002.

Born 1942: Jeffrey Moss, songwriter, a "Sesame Street" creator, responsible for The Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch. His hit songs: "Rubber Duckie," "I Love Trash." Died 1998.

Born 1948: Phylicia Rashad, actress, Clair Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," "Cosby."
