Born 1917: Dean Martin, comedian, crooner, actor. His 10-year comedy partnership with Jerry Lewis yielded immense international fame and 16 major motion pictures, including "My Friend Irma," "Artists and Models," "You're Never Too Young," and "Hollywood or Bust." Later associated with Frank Sinatra's "Rat Pack" and had big success with his long-running NBC-TV variety series. His solo film comedies were many, such as "Ten Thousand Bedrooms," "Bells Are Ringing," "Sergeants 3," "Robin and the Seven Hoods," "Kiss Me, Stupid," "The Silencers," "How to Save a Marriage (and Ruin Your Life)." Died 1995.

Born 1943: Ken Osmond, actor, Eddie Haskell on "Leave It to Beaver."

Born 1946: Jenny Jones, comedian, talk show host.

1959: Jerry Lewis signed the most lucrative movie talent contract to date: 10 million dollars for 14 Paramount pictures.

Opening in movie theatres: "City Slickers" starring Billy Crystal and Jack Palance (1991) ... "The Goonies" (1985) with Sean Astin and Corey Feldman ... Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey in George Stevens' "The Nitwits" (1935).
