Born 1944: Frank Oz, Muppeteer, actor, the original voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Grover, Swedish Chef, Animal (and Yoda of "Star Wars"). His credits as a film director include "The Muppets Take Manhattan," "Little Shop of Horrors," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "What About Bob?" "HouseSitter," "In & Out," "Bowfinger."

1957: "Your Show of Shows," Sid Caesar's landmark sketch comedy series, was cancelled.

Born 1963: Mike Myers, comedian, writer, actor, "Saturday Night Live," "Wayne's World," the "Austin Powers" film series.

1992: Jay Leno, promoted from Johnny Carson's substitute to full-time host of "The Tonight Show," began his version of the NBC variety series.

Died 1996: Buck, 13, the Bundy's dog on "Married ... With Children."
