1922: Silent film star Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle was acquitted of the death of actress Virginia Rappe during a scandalous manslaughter trial, but the comedian's career was irreversibly damaged. His movies were banned and withdrawn from theatres, forcing him to work sporadically behind the camera as a director under the name William Goodrich.
