1932: Jack Benny began his radio career.

Born 1943: Eric Idle, comedian, writer, actor, "Monty Python's Flying Circus," "Life of Brian," "All You Need Is Cash."

1951: "All About Eve" named "Best Picture" at the 23rd Academy Awards presentation.

1959: "Some Like It Hot," starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, opened in movie theatres.

1978: After 11 seasons, "The Carol Burnett Show" aired its final episode.

1986: "Comic Relief," the charity extravaganza, televised its first event. Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, and Whoopi Goldberg hosted.
