Born 1892: Andy Clyde, film comedian, from silent movies for producer Mack Sennett through television, he appeared in nearly 300 films and the TV series "The Real McCoys" (1957-63) and "No Time for Sergeants" (1964-65). In movies and radio productions, he was Hopalong Cassidy's sidekick, California Carlson. Died 1967.

1913: New York's Palace Theatre opened, the home of vaudeville. Ed Wynn headlined.

1943: On the heels of Lou Costello's heart attack, the popular Abbott and Costello radio show was replaced by Jimmy Durante and Garry Moore.

1948: The Cary Grant-Myrna Loy comedy "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" opened in movie houses.

Born 1953: Mary Gross, comedian, actress. As a regular on "Saturday Night Live" (1981-85), she was Alfalfa to Eddie Murphy's Buckwheat. Other roles: "Casual Sex?" (1988), "Feds" (1988), "The Santa Clause" (1994), "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (1997-2000).

1964: The latest episode of the "Beach Party" movie franchise premiered. "Beach Blanket Bingo" starred Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon alongside the generally unknown comedian Don Rickles as Jack Fanny. Also opening on this day, another Annette Funicello vehicle, Walt Disney's "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones" (Tommy Kirk).

Born 1965: Sarah Jessica Parker, actress, "Square Pegs" (1982-83), "Footloose" (1984), "L.A. Story" (1991), "Honeymoon in Vegas" (1992), "Ed Wood" (1994), "Sex and the City" (1998-2004), "Dudley Do-Right" (1999, Nell Fenwick).

1968: The final episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "The Monkees" were broadcast.

1972: "Bewitched," with Elizabeth Montgomery and the Darrins, bid farewell with the sitcom's final episode.
