Born 1894: Jackie "Moms" Mabley, billed as "The Funniest Woman in the World," vaudeville performer on the "Chitlin Circuit," stand-up comedian. As an actress, she starred as "Amazing Grace" (1974). Died 1975.

Born 1900: Roy Roberts, actor, "The Gale Storm Show" (1956-60), "Petticoat Junction" (1963-67), "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1964-67), "The Lucy Show" (1965-68), "Bewitched" (1967-71). Died 1975.

Born 1923: Pamela Britton, actress, "Anchors Aweigh" (1945), TV's "Blondie" (1957), "My Favorite Martian" (1963-66). Died 1974.

1928: "Amos 'n' Andy" premiered on the NBC radio network.

Born 1935: Renee Taylor, writer, "Lovers and Other Strangers" (1970), "Made for Each Other" (1971); actress, "The Jack Paar Show" (1959-62, regular guest), "The Producers" (1968), "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" (1972), "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" (1977-78), "The Nanny" (1993-99).

Born 1947: Glenn Close, actress, "The World According to Garp" (1982), "The Big Chill" (1983), "101 Dalmatians" (1996), "Mars Attacks!" (1996).
