Born 1899: Norman Taurog, film director, "Huckleberry Finn" (1931), "If I Had a Million" (1932), "Living It Up" (1954, one of six with Martin and Lewis), "Don't Give Up the Ship" (1959, one of two solo Jerry Lewis pictures), and "Blue Hawaii" (1961, one of nine with Elvis Presley). Died 1981.

1940: The animation marvel, "Pinocchio," from Walt Disney, opened in theatres.

Born 1951: Patricia Richardson, actress, "Home Improvement" (1991-99).
