This Day in Humor with Mike Durrett

Born 1923: Larry Storch, actor/comedian, known as the nutsy Cpl. Randolph Agarn on the "F Troop" sitcom western (1965-67). He provided numerous voices in cartoons, too, including Koko the Clown.

Born 1926: Soupy Sales, comedian, actor, and game show panelist, remembered for his legendary children's comedy program, "The Soupy Sales Show" (1959-62, 1976). He faced pets, White Fang, Pookie, and Black Tooth, and pies.

Born 1935: Elvis Presley, "The King of Rock and Roll" and a wildly successful movie star, appearing in dozens of lightweight musical comedies. Died 1977.

Born 1937: Bob Eubanks, career game show host, most prominently recalled for several incarnations of the comical "The Newlywed Game," which premiered in 1966.

Born 1941: Graham Chapman, comedian, actor, writer, and member of the Monty Python troupe. Died 1989.

1952: The long-running radio sitcom "My Friend Irma" made the transition to television with star Marie Wilson.

1993: NBC offered "The Tonight Show" to David Letterman, much too late. He bolted to CBS, after not being chosen earlier as Johnny Carson's replacement. That honor fell to Jay Leno, who faced losing his job on this day.
