The Prankster
Comedian Doug Stanhope keeps the hidden camera concept alive with this Z.com series of pranks aimed at unsuspecting targets.
Admittedly, the first video clip I watched, "Bakery," was disappointing. It falls into a running gag collection titled "Help Wanted." In each episode, Doug plays a goading, belligerent jerk applying for jobs. His attempts to "charm" his way into employment by expressing the worst possible boasts can be hysterically pleasing.
My favorite put-ons are in the "Velvet Rope" series. Posing as a doorman outside public restrooms and a bank ATM machine, he insists all comers sign-in for seating or provide their VIP cards to confirm reservations. It doesn't matter no one else is in line; there could still be "a twenty minute wait."
