Humred ballr Boy's
BIG Laugh of the Week!

July 22, 2000

What made Guide Mike Durrett chuckle the most?

Hard Drinkin' Lincoln
I've become obsessed with this unabashedly tacky, yet certainly wacky, Web cartoon series, featured as a Funny Site of the Day.

Hitherto respected American President Abraham Lincoln ("as seen on the penny") is depicted as a bottomless drunk, equal opportunity bigot, public sex offender and all-purpose lout. And that's just during the title sequence. (Hmm, could this rewriting of history be part of a vast left-wing conspiracy to even the score for Zippergate?)

Abe is so effervescent in his crudeness, I can't help but love him. In the episode "The Un-Civil War," for example, it's not enough for him to be the gracious victor of the Battle Between the States; instead, he bolts into action to further humiliate Confederate gentleman Robert E. Lee with wild Grouchoesque taunts of "LOSER! LOSER!!"

That says "Laugh! Laugh!" to me -- and I'm a Southerner, mah dear suh or madam.

This is insult-based shock humor all the way and, although John Wilkes Booth is on hand to pop the Prez in cartoon after cartoon, Lincoln may need to be more worried about character assassination.

The "Hard Drinkin' Lincoln" link at the top of this page will take you to one cartoon on the Icebox.com site. Another is available at the animation studio, Mishmash Media. For more, try Emery Emery.
