Winsor McCay: Wide Awake in
Dreamland
In the early years of the century, this celebrated artist contributed
heavily to the form which would become known as the comic strip. His most
heralded and famous series is Little Nemo in Slumberland, which began in 1905.
McCay's incredibly detailed drawings from his black and white strips have been collected in a book, Daydreams and Nightmares. At The Realist Wonder Society, a generous selection of his "astonishing fantasies and allegories," including Dream of the Rarebit Fiend and Little Sammy Sneeze, have been made available online in their gigantic full-size splendor.
This ain't Dilbert.
