C-Spot
"A spectrum of original Web series that showcase irreverent characters and stories” are promised through C-Spot, according to a press release, so take the jumps to Crackle for the premiere episodes of the first five-pack of sitcoms, satires, and insanities. I've watched the pilots and offer these brief comments....
- Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show -- At first glance, it's a frenetic female twist on Pee-Wee's Playhouse, although for adults. Guests slated to appear include Wil Wheaton, Adam Arkin, and Michael O'Keefe.
- Gaytown -- Societal norms are reversed, as a heterosexual man (Owen Benjamin) fights discrimination in an all-gay universe. Now be nice, boys.
- The Writers Room -- My favorite of the series, so far, incorporates behind-the-scenes showbiz office humor, reminiscent of 30 Rock. The teensy plots revolve around the comedy lugs creating Kevin Pollak's late-night show and satisfying the big boss, TV's Frank Conniff (MST3K). Pollak phones it in, literally. Pretty funny, though.
- The Roadents -- Limited animation propels us into the world of cruising critters, Buttercup and Pee-Wee (no relation to Mr. Herman, I'm told) on their wacky vehicle trips. Cute and different, AOL refers to The Roadents as "The Odd Couple meets Easy Rider." I like that.
- Hot Hot Los Angeles -- A tongue-in-cheek soap opera of friends who hate each other, but kinda adore that voracious sexual appetite thing we've all heard about.
- Penn Says -- Penn (sans Teller) Gillette's previously available chats to a camera will be included in the C-Spot mix.
Best anticipate adult content on these series until we get a solid feel for them. Hot Hot Los Angeles is probably not suitable for your workplace.
