The Life and Humor of Red Buttons: Funny People Profile

Red Buttons died Thursday in Los Angeles. He was one of the heavyweight comedians of the early 1950s with a big hit TV show, however he didn't wear well for the long haul. He was considered finished in show business by 1955. Then came his Academy Award win for 1957's Sayonara, a dramatic turn. That film gave him his comeback, but for the most part Red Buttons' future prominence would be more for acting than stand-up performances.

TCM Plans Special Red Buttons Retrospective
Turner Classic Movies is altering its schedule on Thursday, July 20, to run uncut presentations of six Red Buttons features. The tribute includes his comedic roles in the African adventure Hatari!, the sweet A Ticklish Affair, and the WWII yarn Imitation General. All times Eastern, check your local listings.
