April 1, 2006 - The April Fool's Day Pranks Roundup

Thursday April 6, 2006
The Funny Site of the Day -- Here's a little secret for you. Being fully immersed in and dealing in the art of Humor, every single day of the year is exactly the same as April Fool's Day to me. So, when the annual pranksters' holiday rolls around, I'm at my computer, yawning and scratching and waiting for the traditional anvil to fall through the ceiling, splatting me to within an inch of my waffles.

My wife. I think I'll keep her.

Thanks to Wikipedia, folks from around and on the globe have compiled all of the April Fool's stunts and practical jokes they encountered on 4/1. I'm happy to point you to their fine collection since that's about all I can do in this full body cast. Help me with the syrup, will ya?

Some items are big gags, while others, frankly, are underachievers. Still there's tons of fun to be had (except beneath an anvil).

Topics include movies, television, the Internet, and print publications. Additionally, April Fool's Day pranks gone bad and unintentional "hoaxes" are detailed. Due to the volume of material and the probability more will be added, not all of the tricks and content are known quantities to me, therefore best proceed at your own risk.

One of the put-ons I enjoyed was administered by the guys behind Overheard in New York and Overheard in the Office. They silently forwarded all of their visitors to Overheard in Space. Lots of pithy quotations there. Ha! (Ooo, it only hurts when I type "ha." Ooo.)
