Comedy Movie Preview: "Jesus Is Magic"

THE FUNNY SITE OF THE DAY --
"Explosively funny, unnervingly shocking and perversely adorable." --Variety

"Brilliant! Irreverant, shameless, sexy and outrageous. Silverman proves she is the comic for a generation of political incorrectness. Bitingly hilarious ... Ingenious work by a true comic star." --Dark Horizons
At About Humor, we usually spotlight new comedy movies on the weekend. In recent weeks, each time I decided to write on the bad taste fest "Jesus Is Magic," I didn't. It was always on a Sunday. I'm not the most religious guy in the world, yet why order me up "Extra Crispy?"

So, here it is midweek and here's Sarah Silverman.

The comedian-actress ("Greg the Bunny," "The Aristocrats") has transformed her popular stage show into a full-length film, which involves explicit stand-up comedy, augmented with backstage sequences and musical ditties. Silverman is a fearless humorist. Assuming an attitude of brash innocence, she will say anything for a laugh or an entertaining disturbing moment -- prurient conduct and the Holocaust, for examples -- and, against all odds, she achieves uproarious results.

At Roadshow Attractions' official "Jesus Is Magic" site for the limited theatrical release, see the movie trailer, download desktop wallpapers, and listen to the Sarah Silverman soundboard with a batch of one-liners from the project. Again, this material is intended to be shocking, so be prepared to be offended.

That said, Sarah Silverman, who some have compared to the legendary Lenny Bruce, knows how to craft and deliver a gag. I'm uneasy with beyond impolite topics, but her clever drollery and sweetness make for yummy, salty snacks.
