The Funny Site of the Day - Aug. 15-21, 2005

Sunday August 21, 2005
Sunday: Comedy Movie Preview: "The Man" -- Eugene Levy is the wrong guy thrown into a major arms deal and Samuel L. Jackson is the Federal Agent who needs him to save the day in "The Man," an action comedy movie.

Saturday: Comedy Movie Preview: "Rumor Has It" -- Sarah's (Jennifer Aniston) world implodes when she realizes her mother and grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) may have slept with the same man (Kevin Costner). That's bad enough, but further research indicates the trio may have also been the inspiration for a '60s novel and its film adaptation, a little something called "The Graduate." Poor Sarah, it gets worse. Is she the offspring of those famous events? Take a first look at the "Rumor Has It" movie trailer. The full, official Warner Bros. site will follow on the same page eventually. The Rob Reiner implied prequel / sequel opens Christmas week. Hope it's not plastic.

Friday: TV Comedy Preview -- Ladies and gentlemen, our prayers have been answered. ... Announcing the return of "Greg the Bunny." The ultrahip rabbit and his puppetry pals are mostly over the cancellation of the Fox sitcom, "Greg the Bunny," and have returned to their Independent Film Channel roots to appear in a series of "deranged" movie parodies. At IFC online, watch new and classic G.T.B. clips. On the Downloads page, hear zany ringtones with Greg, Warren the Ape, and Count Blah, blah. Strong language, blah.

Thursday: Uh oh, another heinous problem in the world: Badly Drawn Cats. More than 700 pieces of art have been posted, "proving once and for all that people really can't draw cats."

Fear not, I shall be strong. I'm off to break the ugly news to my puss, Morty. He'll suggest a cover up. And he's just the cat to do it.

Wednesday: Pheromone Fun -- What smells funny? Two Shockwave *romantic* comedy games, House Call and Hide the Hotties, presented by a body spray product. The objects of the challenges are to get the girl(s) and don't stink. There is an adult material warning posted, but I don't know if it's warranted. I'm not good enough at playing games to get to the dirty parts. Just like real life! ... *sigh*...

Tuesday: Elvis Sightings -- On Aug. 16, 1977, there was a mention in the press that Mr. Presley, movie star ("Tickle Me," "Harum Scarum") / King of Rock and Roll ("In the Ghetto," "Aloha Oe"), died. Not true, say the readers of Worth 1000, who contributed dozens of snapshots of Elvis taken during the past 28 years. He looks quite youthful for a man of 70. For more brushes with greatness, there's an Elvis Sightings 2 gallery.

Monday: Taking piles of archival *country living* photographs, many you've seen before, the BPN advertising firm set the images to the famous "Dueling Banjos" melody, as featured in the movie "Deliverance." It's a video ode to pigs, house trailers, dead cars, Clampetts, beer, "Dukes of Hazzard"-- oh, heck, cut to the chase: rednecks! The novelty was produced for The BPN Summer Rooftop Ruckus & BBQ Feed and, while the snapshots do race by, several contain explicit content. Grab an ol' hound dog and watch what we're calling "Dueling Hillbillies."
