'Prickly City' Comic Strip

Wednesday July 20, 2005
THE FUNNY SITE OF THE DAY -- From the Web site: ''A small town in the American Southwest... everything in the desert is designed to prick you, wound you or eat you. What better metaphor for 21st century Earth? 'Prickly City' is a comic strip about the friendship between Winslow, a coyote pup, and Carmen, a straight and narrow kind of kid. 'Prickly City' offers a conservative perspective on political and social events within an ongoing storyline. As Carmen might say, 'We may not be correct but we will always be right.'

"Since 1996, Scott Stantis has been the editorial cartoonist for 'The Birmingham News,' Alabama's most read newspaper, and he produces an editorial cartoon weekly for 'USA TODAY.' His work is syndicated to over 400 newspapers ... Stantis began 'Prickly City' in 2004, after turning over his family comic strip, 'The Buckets' to an assistant."

What’s funny about it? This strip is the lamest drivel I’ve ever read. At it’s worst. it’s offensive…sometimes to Republicans, sometimes to Democrats. At its best, it’s just not funny. If only Scott Stantis could draw, it might have one redeeming quality. But, alas…

This comic strip just started in our local paper. I have read it thinking the strip was touching on some thoughtful subjects. The Pelosi episodes were completely unfounded in the truth. If the strip author listened to public radio or even comedy centrol he would know of the security reasons behind the Speaker of the House of Represntatives plane issue. The speaker is third in line to be President of the United States if.

Your strip for Tuesday, Aug. 26 was outrageous!!! To suggest that the Democratic Convention would welcome a Communist speaker is at the bottom of the barrel for commentaries. Is your middle name McCarthy by any chance, or do you remember that shameful period in our time when people were “blackballed” for having a different point of view. I have always recognized that your strip was on “edge” of being fair, but this is just an outrage!

Uh oh. I hate people who say to me, “Where’s your sense of humor?” Remember those days, feminists? On the other hand — these comments — well, hey, I think Prickly City is funny! Very funny. It’s one of my favorite comics. Maybe it’s changed since these comments were written?
(My label: Happy Obama Democrat.)
