Here's what I've been viewing recently, assessed heavily on amusement. (Single star = Poor; 2 = Fair; 3 = Good; 4 = Very Good; 5 = Exceptional.)
"Garfield": The Movie (2004) -- Fuzzy, cute, and sweet. I guess the critics saw a different movie. Click for my quick report.
"Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" (2004) -- 5000% predictable, but huge, mean-spirited laughs for the best sports comedy since "Kingpin."
"Shrek 2" (2004) -- I like these movies, considering the animation is surprisingly unattractive. The pictures cry out for the hand-drawn Disney approach they so happily mock.
"Envy" (2004) -- Ben Stiller (again) and Jack Black poop out a forgettable farce about fame, fortune, and dog doo.
"Green Acres": The Complete First Season (1965) -- The often misunderstood and wrongly belittled sitcom is a masterpiece of surreal silliness, pretty much up to speed from the start, but, as my friend says, hold onto something in seasons two and three when godlike comedy writers go bonkers. I've watched 16 episodes this week and I am drooling for more. Well, I'm not exactly drooling, but I'm eager. Well, I'm not exactly eager, but I'm looking forward. Well, I'm not exactly looking forward. I'm looking over towards Pixley. Gee, if only I could watch this show with Arnold the Pig and Doris Ziffel....
