I'm a Little Teapot

Friday June 18, 2004
Look closely at this image, circulating via email. It's purported to be from an eBay online auction. The accompanying message, as if posted by eBay: "Folks, if you are going to be selling something that people are going to be drinking fluids out of, please take the extra time to either put on some clothes before taking a picture, or concentrate on selling the non-reflective items in your kitchen. Thank you."

Being a rabid info ferret, I uncovered this nudity-filled explanation of the photo at Snopes: "This image of a tea kettle, with the reflection on its surface revealing the less than fully-clothed status of its owner, was indeed posted to sold.com.au, an Australian on-line auction site, in August 2001. It isn't the case that the posting of this photo was an embarrassing accident, however -- a trace of the seller's user ID revealed him to be one of a group of people who enjoy engaging in 'inadvertent exhibitionism' through the deliberate planting of images containing non-obvious exposure on web sites." Golly, who needs cable? Let me get this straight. ... We can find other pictures of naked people on the Internet?

Thanks to Bob From Stockbridge for the fine kettle o' fun.
